Learning to read music is an impressive and useful skill that you need to possess, even if you never planned to become a professional musician. The ability to take written notes and know how to turn them into something that can be played, enjoyed and listened to is what most would like to have.

Although it is possible to play instruments without even receiving a formal musical education, learning to read and accurately reproduce musical notes helps to lay a solid foundation that gives the student musician much more freedom and control over his abilities.

Teaching students to read music may seem a little intimidating. In fact, it’s like learning a completely new language that is completely alien to them. The happiness is that, especially when they are young, children have a brain that is ideally prepared to perceive new information and master new skills.

To successfully learn to read music, you need some practice, repetition and commitment, but this does not mean that it should be boring.
